NATURE OF POSITION
Operate scales to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles at the City landfill; directing customers and providing information; operate a computer terminal to input customer data and issue proper landfill charges to customer; cashiering and preparing related reports.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year cash handling or customer service experience. Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual in Spanish.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General direction and oversight are provided by the Solid Waste Supervisor and his/her designees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Employees of the City of Walla Walla are expected to model and foster the City’s core values:

2. Operate scales to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles at the City landfill; determine appropriate charges for vehicle entering landfill; enter data into computer.
3. Receive and count money, make change and prepare related reports; assure charged transactions are signed according to established procedures.
4. Operate a computer terminal to input customer data and assure proper landfill charges to customer; print daily transaction reports and submit them to the Finance Office as required.
5. Respond to customer inquiries and provide information related to proper procedures of landfill operations.
6. Operate a motor vehicle.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Business and office machines including personal computer terminals, copier, phones and credit card terminal, Two-way radio, security camera system, cash drawer, lock boxes and safe, and other general office related equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting and standing for extended periods of time; seeing, hearing, and speaking to exchange information; intermittently kneel down, stoop, bend at the waist; lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; reaching horizontally; carrying; pushing and pulling; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of buttons and levers. Prolonged typing, handling money, multitasking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
General office environment that can be fast paced and demanding at times. Uneven surfaces, loud vehicles, and occasional vehicle fumes. Working with and around the public and other City staff.
