Payroll Specialist
NATURE OF POSITION:
Performs a variety of professional and technical duties to process payroll and leave transactions and uses automated processes and performs related duties as required or assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Responsible for all facets of processing payroll including compliance with federal, state, and local tax rules, and internal policies affecting gross to net computations
• Performs independent planning and preparation to ensure mission is accomplished within set time frames with respect to processing deadlines and system constraints
• Compiles payroll data for garnishments, annual and personal leave, and insurance and retirement deductions, to include 403b accounts
• Contacts various department supervisors for any missed payroll information
• Compiles internal management reports from payroll system software
• Troubleshoots and resolves discrepancies
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to troubleshoot, design process improvements, and analyze data
• Proficiency with systems to support payroll processes, data entry, and use of technical tools to assess data integrity
• Knowledge of school division policies, principles, and concepts common to a payroll operation
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate degree in business, accounting, or related subject, plus five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience using multiple systems and tools to accomplish large volume processing

SALARY / STIPEND:
Pay Rate: $18.86 - $30.17 per hour, depending on experience. Supplemental pay may be given for advanced degrees. Danville School Board pays the employee cost, in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and health insurance. Other benefits - sick leave and personal leave.
