Summary Position
Campus Recreation & Wellness provides quality recreational and educational experiences designed to positively impact the development of Elon students and contribute to the wellness of the campus community. The Coordinator of Collegiate Recovery is an essential member of the Campus Recreation & Wellness professional team and will provide dedicated leadership in developing the Phoenix Free initiative as a model Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP). This position is responsible for the continued development, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive collegiate recovery program that includes assessing needs and evaluating project outcomes. This position will work alongside professional staff to cultivate a recovery-ready campus, increase student access to substance use prevention and recovery support services, establish a visible network of recovery allies, and strengthen campus and community collaborations. This is a grant-funded position through June 2024 with a possible extension through 2026.

Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, health education, addiction studies, counseling, psychology, or related field required; master’s degree in public health, social work, health education, higher education, addiction studies, counseling, psychology, or related field preferred
Degree/Major:
Length of Experience: Completed bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of post-bachelor’s professional experience in a higher education setting and working with young adults in recovery is required. Completed master’s degree in public health, social work, higher education, addiction studies, counseling, psychology, or related field and 1-2 years of experience is strongly preferred.

Special Skills or Experience
- Experience working with substance use in a university setting and demonstrated knowledge of how to incorporate prevention, harm reduction, and recovery in the context of higher education
- Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and ability to design, implement, and evaluate effective programs, services, and interventions
- Proficiency in conducting quantitative and qualitative research (e.g., research design, survey development, environmental assessment, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis, etc.) and interpreting findings to develop data-driven programs
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate individual-and-group discussions about sensitive topics, including BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) and other substance use-related interventions
- Supervisory skills to effectively manage student employees, interns, or volunteers
- Knowledge, understanding, and respect for unique pathways to recovery
- Experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, working with diverse populations, and a commitment to equity and inclusion

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Advocacy
- Assist with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-informed recovery support programs, practices, and strategies
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive CRP to include weekly mutual aid meetings, leadership team meetings, ongoing substance-free social opportunities, and access to on- and off-campus resources
- Provide support, consultation, and content expertise to campus constituents on substance use prevention, harm reduction, and recovery
- Assess Phoenix Free project initiative, generate written reports, internal documents, and synthesize research to inform strategic decision-making
- Research and analyze college substance use-related literature and best practices
- Collaborate with key campus and external partners to advance the mission of the Phoenix Free CRP and advocate for university policies that promote health and well-being
Project Implementation and Management
- Assist with development and implementation of in-person and web-based recovery ally training program, providing ongoing education and support for faculty, staff, and students
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, community partners, and neighboring CRPs to develop and implement recovery initiatives grounded in standards of practice
- Facilitate individual and group brief motivational interventions including but not limited to the Alcohol Discussion Workshop (ADW) and Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program
- Train and assist SPARKS Peer Health Educators with coordination and implementation of evidence-informed risk reduction strategies and programs, including Social Event Manager (SEM) training for student organizations
- Provide supervision to student interns and undergraduate students assisting with prevention, intervention, and recovery support services
- Advise Phoenix Free student organization and support student leaders in fulfilling organizational and departmental responsibilities (i.e., event planning, financial management) and upholding code of conduct policies and expectations of the university
Project Assessment and Evaluation
- Develop survey instruments and conduct ongoing needs assessments and program evaluation of collegiate recovery services to demonstrate improved outcomes
- Generate and submit grant proposals to secure continuous funding and support of prevention and recovery initiatives
- Develop processes to monitor student progress and document participant attendance in all Phoenix Free related programs and events
- Ensure accuracy and precision in tracking all grant-related expenses and work closely with the Associate Director and/or Assistant Director for submission of monthly budget reports
- Participate in required grant technical assistance training
- Complete and submit semi-annual grant performance reports
Department and Student Wellness Administration
- Active participation in all Campus Recreation and Wellness and Student Wellness staff meetings
- Assist in the development and management of program budgets
- Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities
- Foster collaborative campus and community relationships to promote Campus Recreation and Wellness and the campus-wide HealthEU wellness initiative
Division and University Responsibilities
- Support departmental strategic planning, goal setting, priority completion, evaluation and assessment, and data-driven decision making
- Support departmental and university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation
- Serve on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees
- Serve as a member of one of three Student Life divisional teams providing student support and outreach in crisis and non-emergency situations: 1) Student Life Emergency Response Team*, 2) SafeLine Confidential Response Team*, or 3) Student Care Response Team. *Supplemental pay for night and/or weekend roles
