Job Summary
Performs a wide variety of custodial duties and tasks in and around a wide range of campus facilities in order to provide a clean, healthy and safe environment.
- Cleans all types of building spaces and surfaces. Cleans by following and/or using the proper cleaning procedures, guidelines, chemicals, tools, supplies and equipment for each specific area and task. Is responsible for the proper use of Master Keys & Individual Keys which provide access to specific and assigned areas throughout the University using the Key Watcher Lockbox. Replenishes supplies such as paper products, soap and seat covers. Collects and transports refuse including solid waste and recyclables. Cleans and relines containers with plastic bags as required. Cleans high places using ladders when necessary. Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance. Uses personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required and/or as instructed and follows all safety rules and guidelines. Adheres to and follows written daily task routine schedule unless otherwise instructed by the immediate supervisor. Reports any custodial or maintenance deficiencies to the immediate supervisor.
- Vacuums, cleans, sweeps, mops, waxes, scrubs, burnishes and polishes floors, fixtures and surfaces. Operates all types of cleaning equipment, floor care equipment, and specialized cleaning equipment. Does all types of heavy project cleaning using above mentioned cleaning methods and equipments, such as but not limited to floor stripping and waxing, polishing, sports flooring maintenance, heavy restrooms cleaning, carpet shampooing and extraction, spot removal, and pressure cleaning. Cleans any other item and/or area as deemed necessary and as instructed.
- Keeps adjoining patios, courtyards, breezeways, walkways, balconies, staircases in and around buildings clean. Keeps outside building area within 10 feet of building clean and free of all types of litter.
- Maintains and cleans assigned custodial closet. Responsible for complete cleaning of custodial cart at end of shift. Properly handles all tools and supplies. Stores and organizes all supplies and shelves neatly. Ensures the custodial closet remains organized and clean and fully stocked including floor signs and emergency equipment if required such as wet-vacs. Responsible for cleaning all equipment used during the shift. Completes and turns in daily report to immediate supervisor. Safely operates motor vehicles in the performance of the position's essential functions. Reports to supervisor when equipment is not working properly or in need of repair.
- Performs essential duties during any emergencies, such as hurricanes, storms and/or any other University emergency closing. Employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during University emergency closings with appropriate notification by department administrator. Participates in weekend rotation and may be required to work overtime as needed during events, emergency, and special projects beyond regular hours and regular schedule, based on department needs.
- Performs general emergency duties connected to any and all aspects of related work such as but not limited to hurricane protection, water and/or fire damage and other types of emergencies requiring custodial assistance. Performs other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Completion of the ninth (9th) grade.
