Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) is hiring multiple (up to 5) postdoctoral research associates/fellows to support new projects at the interfaces of civil engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, mining engineering, geologic physics and chemistry, and climate science. Distinguished candidates will be considered at higher ranks such as Assistant Research Professor. These postdoctoral-level researchers are anticipated to work in one or more of the following areas, and candidates who are experiences in multiple areas will be given priority.
  • Concrete pavement engineering (focus: repair, new technologies such as self-healing, fatigue tests, and monitoring/sensing technologies);
  • Development and optimization of paste, mortar, and concrete for 3D printing;
  • Design and optimization of reactors and chemical processes in regard to carbon mineralization;
  • Geochemistry and geophysics in regard to carbon sequestration and mineralization;
  • Hydrometallurgy (focus: leaching, separation, and purification of energy-relevant critical minerals);
  • Application of carbon mineralization technologies for cement and concrete innovation; and
  • Modeling and evaluation of complex problems using AI, LCA and TEA.
Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting daily research according to the requirements of assigned projects;
  • Drafting progress reports and reporting to funding agencies;
  • Mentoring graduate students;
  • Drafting journal papers and technical reports;
  • Exploring beyond the scope of the projects to create new ideas; and
  • Managing assigned equipment and materials.
Successfully hired postdoctoral researchers are expected to start before March 1, 2024, and will be mainly working in the Laboratory of Future Cements and Carbon-Negative Initiatives (FuCCI) at Missouri S&T and collaborating with internally and externally collaborative research groups. Qualifications
  • PhD in relevant areas
  • Strong track record of publications in relevant areas;
  • Demonstrated inter-personal skills and ability to work in a dynamic research group (individually and as a team member); and
  • Demonstrated ability of addressing challenges and dealing with pressure, while enjoying the rural Missouri (fishing, kayaking, camping, hiking, hunting, BBQ, etc).
