Ohio Wesleyan University (www.owu.edu) is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and is located just 20 miles north of Columbus. The Campus Logistics Coordinator is seeking a Central Receiving Clerk.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Central Receiving and Campus Logistics Coordinator, the incumbent will act as the receiving point for the University for deliveries of supplies, materials, and equipment, performing all clerical duties related to the receipt and disposition of deliveries. This role will verify completeness of shipments and condition of goods received, report shortages, damaged or returned merchandise to supervisor, record all goods received, prepare goods for shipment and keep record (method of wrapping, shipment, etc.). In addition, this role is responsible for the security of all deliveries received to the point of delivery to the appropriate department. Record weight and shipping charges. Operate fork lift, pallet jack and other material handling and logistics equipment. Ensure all delivered goods are removed from the receiving dock as quickly as possible. Deliver parcels under 50 lbs. and coordinate in concert with the requestor regarding the disposition of freight and movement by requestor of freight from the loading dock in a timely manner. In addition, this role will train and direct and monitor work of student workers and temporary staff; leads. Finally, the incumbent will ensure that the warehouse is properly maintained at all times, and that deliveries are received from vendors and delivered to appropriate location. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under general supervision for routine scheduled tasks and direct supervision for more complex tasks.
  • Act as the receiving point for the University for deliveries of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Perform all clerical duties related to the receipt and disposition of deliveries.
  • Report the receipt of deliveries immediately to the purchasing office and the affected office.
  • Verify completeness of shipments and condition of goods received.
  • Report shortages, damaged or returned merchandise to purchasing office immediately or supervisor.
  • Prepare goods for shipment and keep record (method of wrapping, shipment, etc.). Responsible for the security of all deliveries received to the point of delivery to the appropriate department.
  • Record weight and shipping charges.
  • Operate forklift or front-end loader.
  • Save and store boxes to be used for future shipping.
  • Place copies of receiving reports in the mail upon receipt of material.
  • Look out for invoices that don't match up against the purchase orders, or items marked "backorder" or "out-of-stock." Insure all delivered goods are removed from the receiving dock as quickly as possible.
  • Deliver mail and parcels.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILIITES:

  • Knowledge of or ability to use shipping and receiving software.
  • Ability to function in and complete work utilizing the Microsoft office suite (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to receive and inspect incoming shipments of goods and materials.
  • Ability to unload trucks and containers using forklifts or other equipment.
  • Ability to verify the accuracy of shipment contents against purchase orders or invoices.
  • Ability to record and report any discrepancies or damages to management.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to sort and organize received items and deliver to campus locations.
  • Ability to prepare and package outgoing shipments for delivery or transfer to other departments.
  • Discipline and ability to maintain a clean and organized receiving area.
  • Ability to navigate competing priorities and demands.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year experience in shipping and receiving in a college or university setting.
  • Strong verbal skills to present and exchange information which is sometimes technical or complex.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond to work situations with minimum guidance or direction.
  • Basic knowledge of shipping and receiving and mail room.
  • Physical hazards are possible while working from trucks or using receiving-related equipment.
  • The physical ability to lift heavy to moderately heavy boxes.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or distribution center preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts, reach trucks, and RF scanners.
  • Ability to load and unload heavy items safely and efficiently.
  • Basic math skills for counting, sorting, and verifying inventory.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in receiving and recording shipments.
  • Excellent organizational skills to maintain an orderly receiving area.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
