Mission or Goal of Unit:
The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry is located in downtown Richmond, Virginia. With a 130-year history, Virginia's only dental school provides opportunities for selected, qualified individuals to study dentistry and oral health through a doctor of dental surgery (D.D.S) program, graduate specialty training programs and a dental hygiene program. The VCU School of Dentistry is one of a small number of dental schools in the country affiliated with an academic medical center, the only dental school in the Commonwealth, and the second oldest dental school in the U.S. It is one of five health sciences academic programs on the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Campus of VCU.

The primary mission of the School of Dentistry is to educate practitioners of Dentistry capable of meeting the general oral health needs of the communities they serve. Integral parts of the mission are research and other scholarly activity, patient care and service and leadership in dental education and organized dentistry, and collaboration and participation with other units with VCU and VCU Health Systems.

Chief Purpose of this position:
The School of Dentistry's Department of General Practice and Prosthodontics is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in the Division of Prosthodontics. Responsibilities include didactic and clinical teaching in fixed, removable, and implant prosthodontics to dental students and residents; participation in service activities and research.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching:
Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of pre-doctoral students and residents, in Fixed, Removable, and Implant Prosthodontics. Mentoring undergraduate dental students and residents in preparation for private practice, service, and scholarship. Leadership as a course director at the pre-doctoral level. All faculty members are expected to teach in an integrated curriculum system. Teaching across traditional departmental lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning that is informed by interdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creative expression.

Clinical:
Will provide teaching and leadership role in dentistry clinics, seeing patients, working with students and residents, and working collaboratively with other faculty and staff to promote best business practices, and increase clinic productivity. Participation in the Faculty Private Practice; requires demonstrated ability to build a practice.

Research:
Faculty members may participate in research protocols and will work collaboratively with dental research programs and investigators.

Service:
The faculty member will be expected to serve the Department of General Practice, Division of Prosthodontics in the School of Dentistry, and committees and task forces as requested. In addition, participation in dentistry-related community service activities is strongly encouraged.

Required Qualifications:
• Dental degree (DDS/DMD or equivalent)
• Eligible for a dental license in Virginia
• Minimum of three years' experience in teaching pre-doctoral students and residents in all aspects of Prosthodontics
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning with the ability to adapt to change and embrace modern technology
• Ability, or acquire and develop such ability, to incorporate adult learning theory, evidence-based oral health care, innovation in student learning, and critical thinking
• For tenure eligibility: The candidate will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Board certified in Prosthodontics
• Experience in sleep medicine and orofacial pain management
