Nurse Practitioner
Job Description
The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner performs medical surveillance examinations for employees at Virginia Tech. The nurse practitioner evaluates employees and volunteers exposed to infectious agents, animal allergens, or chemical or particulate hazards at work. The Nurse Practitioner collaborates with other occupational health care professionals in providing direct medical services, by reviewing tests and issuing written medical opinions based on work performed by others, and by issuing Standing Orders to support on-going testing and medical evaluations performed by other staff within the clinic. The Nurse Practitioner assures that medical services required by OSHA are provided in accordance with those standards. The Nurse Practitioner will work one day per week, or as needed or required, at the Virginia Tech Occupational Health Clinic.
Required Qualifications
The Nurse Practitioner must be qualified to submit an attestation to the Virginia Board of Nursing requesting approval for autonomous practice in accordance with 18 VAC 90-30-86. All fees associated with autonomous practice attestation will be the responsibility of Virginia Tech.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
• Nurse Practitioner – Virginia Licensure
• Significant full-time clinical nursing experience with experience that sufficiently demonstrates strong knowledge related to occupational health.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working as a Nurse Practitioner in an Employee Health or Occupational Health clinic setting
• Experience applying OSHA medical surveillance and evaluation requirements
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner
• Certified to perform pulmonary function tests
• Experience developing and administering policies, procedures and protocols
